About Us

Welcome to Vista Church.

We are a non-denominational, Bible-based, Christian church in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Our Mission

Our mission is to love God, love people, and make disciples.  In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus clearly teaches us to love the “Lord our God” with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbor as ourselves.  He would later command his followers to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” (Mat. 28:19) Based on these clear and simple teachings of Jesus we find the mission of Vista Church.

Church Plant Team From Bellevue Washington

Our Vision

Our vision is to be a relational, Jesus-centered church that passionately holds to Bible truth and plants many more healthy local churches. We want people to learn about Jesus in a profound and life-changing way, and to fulfill Jesus’ great commission – making authentic disciples of the nations. We are part of a small group of churches who encourage and build each other up, and plant healthy local churches in cities around the world.

Our Story

We started in the fall of 2016 as a diverse team of 47, sent from Blue Sky Church in Seattle, WA. Planting Vista Church in San Luis Obispo is the culmination of an idea that had been in the minds and prayers of Blue Sky’s leaders and overseers for a number of years. We’ve been thrilled to be joined in SLO by passionate Christians (some of whom were baptized at Vista Church) who have joined us on our mission.

Our desire is to be a local church where people can learn about Jesus in a way that deeply impacts and changes their lives. At Vista, we are centered on Jesus, and hold to the truths of the Bible passionately. Our vision is to be a church that makes disciples and plants many more healthy local churches in university cities all over the West Coast and beyond.

So Why Are We Called Vista?

In November 2015, our lead pastor, Luke Williams, was praying and asking Jesus what to call this new church, and Hebrews 12:1-2 repeatedly stood out.

“Therefore since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” HEBREWS 12:1-2

The word vista means "a pleasing view," and often implies a need to fix our eyes on it in the distance. In this life, there is nothing more necessary or wonderful than looking to Jesus in all matters of belief and practice. Our hope is that, as a church, we would do this with great passion!
